NABCOP Data Flow

The datasets used for National Audit of Breast Cancer in Older Patients (NABCOP) are detailed in the NABCOP Combined Data Specification, and were supplied by the national cancer registration services.  For England, this was the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS).  For Wales, this was the Cancer Network Information System Cymru (CANISC).

NABCOP did not receive sensitive patient identifiers.  The multiple datasets received by the Audit included unique but anonymous identifiers, used for the sole purposes of linking the separate datasets received – to conduct the audit’s analyses. All reporting of the analysis findings was on anonymised aggregated information; for example by English NHS Trusts and Welsh Health Board.

The Clinical Effectiveness Unit (CEU) of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS), where the NABCOP project team was based, acted as a data processor for the Audit. Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) was the data controller. HQIP were joint controllers with NHS England for the England NABCOP data.
